Tips for a pleasant visit to the museum

Our guided tours, exhibitions and museum houses offer you a varied day with us.
You will find all of our special events under our event highlights and in our events calendar.
During your visit to the museum you can also have lunch.

We advice an arrival at the Rammelsberg at least half an hour before the start of your guided tour.
Please note: for guided tours underground the age minimum is 4 years. Please consider during your choice of your preferred guided tour if you have problems with about 101 stairs or tight rooms. Our museum staff will help you find the correct guided tour for your ideal museum experience.
Animal companions: Dogs are not allowed in the museum, this includes the casino. Assistant dogs are welcome.
English-Language Tours at the Rammelsberg World Heritage Site
This summer, we once again offer a special program for English-speaking guests:
Starting July 2nd and continuing every Wednesday to Sunday during the summer holidays, we offer guided tours in English. You can choose between two exciting experiences:
Roeder Gallery Tour
For centuries, water power was the most important source of energy at the Rammelsberg ore mine. A remarkable testament to this is the Roeder System, designed by Mining Director Johann Christoph Roeder.
It consisted of underground water channels, shafts, and drive wheels, and contributed to the high efficiency of Rammelsberg’s mining operations in the 19th century.
During the tour, you will follow the path of the water that powered the massive pumping and drainage wheels deep underground.
Mine Train Tour
The tour guide offers insights into the daily work of miners in the 1950s and 60s: After the traditional breakfast break (“Anbeißen”), drilling, blasting, and loading the ore into transport wagons took place.
You’ll experience mining machines in action—tools that made the work somewhat easier, though it remained physically demanding.

Rundvisninger på dansk i UNESCO-verdensarven Rammelsberg
Også i denne sommer tilbyder vi igen et særligt program for vores gæster fra Danmark:
Fra den 1. juli og derefter hver tirsdag i sommerferien tilbyder vi rundvisninger på dansk. Du kan vælge mellem to spændende rundvisninger:
Rundvisning i Roeder-Stollen
I århundreder var vandkraft den vigtigste energikilde ved og i Rammelsbergs malmmine. Et imponerende vidnesbyrd om dette er det såkaldte Roederske system, udviklet af overmineinspektør Johann Christoph Roeder.
Det bestod af underjordiske vandløb, skakter og drivhjul og gav Rammelsberg-minedriften høj effektivitet i det 19. århundrede.
På denne rundvisning følger du vandets vej, som satte de enorme vandhjul og pumper i bevægelse under jorden.
Rundvisning med minebanen
Guiden giver indblik i minearbejdernes daglige arbejde i 1950’erne og 1960’erne: Efter "Anbeißen" (morgenmaden) bliver der boret, sprængt og til sidst læsses malmstenen i transportvogne.
Du oplever de maskiner i funktion, som gjorde arbejdet lettere for minearbejderne – selv om det stadig var hårdt og krævende.
Tider (fra 1. juli, hver tirsdag i sommerferien):

Retaining wall lower work yard
Dear visitors,
what you see is the retaining wall of the so-called lower work yard. The outer masonry made of natural stone is detaching from the concrete wall behind it in many places. Penetrating water has expanded during winter frost and split off the natural stones. The meter-thick concrete wall is damaged on the surface, but its stability remains intact.
What are we doing? We raised funds because the Rammelsberg World Heritage Site cannot pay for the renovation on its own. We coordinate with the monument protection authorities and planning offices to rebuild the more than 80-year-old wall as we found it. Civil engineers plan with new construction technology to prevent further damage.
You can't see that! That happens in the background in the offices and in many coordination meetings. And unfortunately that takes time!
