For centuries, water power was the most important source of energy at and in the Rammelsberg ore mine. An impressive testimony to this is the Roeder system, designed by the head miner Johann Christoph Roeder. It consisted of underground watercourses, shafts and water wheels and provided Rammelsberg mining with a high level of efficiency in the 19th century.

During the tour, you will follow the path of the water that set the huge sweeping and artificial wheels in motion underground.

Underground it is 12 °C and damp – so don't forget to bring a jacket and sturdy shoes!
