The Roeder tunnel was named after its creator, the chief mining engineer Johann Christoph Roeder. The system with its underground watercourses, wheels and shafts is over 200 years old "machinery", which provided the mining industry with a high level of efficiency in the 19th century.

During the tour, you will follow the path of the water that set the huge sweeping and artificial wheels in motion underground. Until the beginning of the 20th century, water energy was the most important, sustainable source of energy at the Rammelsberg ore mine.

Tips and notes

Underground it is 12 °C and damp – so don't forget to bring a jacket and sturdy shoes!
